The Chevy Colorado Trail Boss Package is, or should we say “was,” a returning option for Chevrolet’s popular mid-size truck for the 2022 model year. But, unfortunately, for customers looking to order the new package, it is already unavailable to order.

The Trail Boss package was initially available on the 2016 Chevy Colorado Z71s as a special edition. Then, in 2017 the ZR2 took over as the off-road-centric package, and the Trail Boss was discontinued.

According to GM Authority, General Motors received more than three times the orders they expected for the entire year within the first month of the package’s availability. Due to the overwhelming amount of orders, GM has removed the Trail Boss as an option on their site since they simply don’t have the required parts available.

It’s also been reported that dealer orders that were originally intended to include the Trail Boss package are now being reconfigured.

So, what exactly did the incredibly popular trim package include? The Trail Boss Package featured:

  • Skid plates.
  • A front 1-inch leveling kit.
  • 17-inch high gloss black wheels.
  • Red recovery hooks.
  • Black tailgate lettering.
  • Black Colorado emblems.

Some of these items may be available as dealer parts, so customers can still add some of the flair of the original package to their LT and Z71 Colorados.

This news poses some interesting questions as several automotive manufacturers are still postponing vehicle deliveries due to the 2021 chip shortage. If this news from GM is any indication, the supply chain issues may expand well beyond technology-focused features and into the next 2022 model year in unexpected ways.
