Stephen Nielson was introduced to the world of 4-wheeling at the age of ten when he and his dad first went to the Moab Easter Jeep Safari in a bone stock Suzuki Samurai. From then on he was hooked and what started with a desire to conquer the trails of Moab evolved into a fascination with the Utah desert and the strange and wonderful things that can be found hiding there.

He purchased a Samurai of his own in 1999 and immediately started leading his high school 4-Wheel Drive club on trips in the deserts and mountains of Northern Utah. Since then Stephen has racked up tens of thousands of miles leading groups on trails from scenic two tracks to hardcore rock crawling; always driving less common vehicles like an Isuzu Trooper or Nissan Armada.

Stephen is the co-founder and lead guide at Western Overland Adventures, Wilderness First Aid certified, a Tread Lightly! Master Trainer, as well as a former board member of the Utah 4-Wheel Drive Association. He is a licensed HAM radio operator, an award winning amateur photographer, and a passable shade-tree mechanic.
