New this year: registration for classes will open in order of registration date (i.e.: earliest registrants get top picks! Don't delay.)
New suite of extended 4-6-hour classes: first aid class and certification; HAM radio certification; in-depth recovery skills (2 classes); photography; and navigation. Note: these are ONLY available to the first 150 registrants, don't delay!
New globally recognized competency-certification program: this great opportunity to verify your skills will be offered on a first-come basis post-show, with our team of international instructors and will include a refresher course.
New Safarious Campfire community area: Safarious.com is our new communications partner, and they will host our Campfire Community each evening in the center of the Exhibitor Area. Bring a chair and share stories and dreams with fellow overlanders around one of the campfires (propane, of course, since wood fire restrictions will likely be in place). Be sure to sign up for an account atSafarious.com, and join the Overland Expo community on this great new trip-sharing social media site.
New Overland Awards Saturday night with “black tie”: we’re proud to announce ConserVentures is forming a committee of the world’s most respected overland industry and travel veterans and will host the First Annual Overland Awards. Awards will recognize lifetime achievement; those who give back to the world; industry products and service; most interesting unsupported expedition; and most interesting sponsored expedition. We will be creating attendee voting online, and we’ll encourage overland-themed black-tie creative dress for the occasion.

3 INSPIRING EXPLORERS TO MEET
- Pablo Rey and Ana Callau are Spaniards who have been on the road for 10 years now in their Mitsubishi van. They have written a book, La Vuelta al Mundo en 10 Años, which will soon be available in English, Around the World in 10 Years: The Book of Independence.
- Ben Slavin is one of the most active adventure motorcycle travelers out there, and he loves sharing his trips. His MotorcycleMexico.com DVD is a perfect primer (for vehicles, too). From Europe to the Americas, give him a bike and he’ll make an adventure.
- Austin Vince strikes again—the king of epic do-it-yourself adventures, Austin and a team of 7 have just returned from a motorcycle journey into the heart of Mauritania. In the tradition of Mondo Enduro, Austin and many of his crew will debut the film Mondo Sahara at OX13.
2 OVERLAND ICONS = The JATAC
Overland Expo and ConserVentures’ new vehicle was a surprise to many, who quipped, “Oh, it’s Just a Tacoma.” Hence, the nickname JATAC. That can be expanded now to Just a Tacoma and Camper, a Four Wheel Campers Fleet. We’ll debut the final setup at OX13, but in the meantime watch Overland Tech and Travel for step-by-step discussions of our moderate modifications. Here’s an explanation of our reasoning behind choosing “Just a Tacoma.” Immediately after that story is our first modification: BOSS airbag suspension.
1 AMAZING COMMUNITY
Aside from all the cool bikes and vehicles, the drool-worthy gear, the inspirational trips and expeditions, the real gem of Overland Expo is the community. Spending three days hanging out with like-minded people, with whom you don’t feel “weird” for preferring a tent to a hotel, for thinking it’s fun to spend 6 hours battling a washed-out, rutted 20-mile track just to visit a remote Utah petroglyph site, and for being excited to try tacos de ojo on the way through Oajaca . . .
Now come join us! Happy holidays everyone. May your new year be filled by making your dreams of exploration and discovery come true. See you May 17-19, 2013 at Mormon Lake, Arizona.
