For overlanders, van lifers, and weekend campers, a reliable fridge isn’t just a luxury anymore; it’s part of the essential kit. The Travoca Rigel 35DZ steps into a crowded market with a compelling mix of features typically reserved for higher-priced units, most notably dual-zone functionality in a relatively compact footprint. Add in thoughtful design details and modern usability, and it becomes a solid option for your rig.

Right out of the box, the Rigel 35DZ stands out. The steel body paired with bamboo accents gives it a more refined, almost furniture-like feel compared to typical solid colored fridges, which can feel more utilitarian. It’s clearly designed with van builds and curated overland rigs in mind, not just for function but also for its presentation.

The dual-lid, dual-side opening design immediately adds practicality. Whether it’s mounted on a fridge slide, tucked behind drawers, or living in a van galley, access is flexible no matter how your rig is laid out. Access from either side makes a difference when space is limited or gear is stacked around it. It’s one of those features you appreciate more the longer you use it.

The ability to run the fridge and freezer at the same time is a big deal for extended trips. The Rigel 35DZ gives you that flexibility without jumping into premium-tier pricing, making it a great value proposition.

The Bluetooth app allows real-time temp control and monitoring for both zones. It’s simple, responsive, and eliminates the need to constantly access the unit physically, especially useful in drawer systems or tight van builds. The app is very straightforward, installs easily, and just works well.

Being able to plug in from either side is a small but impactful detail. In real-world builds where wiring isn’t always perfectly positioned, this adds a ton of flexibility.

This is not a passive cooler, it’s a true electric fridge/freezer, which means it always requires a power source.

You’ve got a few options depending on your setup:

  • 12V vehicle power (cigarette socket or hardwired): Ideal for daily driving or short trips
  • Portable power stations: Great for camp use or when parked for extended periods
  • 110V AC (shore power or home): Useful for pre-cooling or garage use

The Rigel supports both 12V DC and standard AC input, making it easy to transition between your vehicle, campsite, or home base.

In real-world overland use, pairing it with a dual-battery setup or a portable power station is key if you plan to stay parked for long periods. Travoca notes it can run around 18 hours on a 1500Wh power station, which gives a rough benchmark for planning your power needs.

The interior lighting is another nice touch, making it much easier to use at night.

Cooling performance is solid. It gets down to temp quickly and holds it well, even with repeated access during camp use. The compressor-based system eliminates the need for ice entirely, freeing up usable space and simplifying food management.

Noise levels are low enough for van life or sleeping nearby, and overall efficiency is respectable for a dual-zone unit.

At just over 50 pounds empty, it’s not light. Once loaded with food and drinks, it becomes a semi-permanent fixture in your setup rather than something you casually move around. Although the metal and wood side handles are durable, strong, and look great. For its size and weight, the internal capacity feels a bit limited compared to some competitors. Dual-zone functionality adds versatility but eats into usable space, something to consider if maximizing storage is your priority.

Cleaning the fridge is easy enough with the water port to drain water and gunk. The divider easily slides out to clean separately. While there is no interior basket included, like some of the competitors offer, it’s fairly easy to load and unload contents to give a thorough cleaning.

The Travoca Rigel 35DZ lands in a strong middle ground for those seeking modern features and true dual-zone functionality without jumping into top-tier pricing. At $749.99, it stands out as one of the best values for a well-designed, visually refined electric cooler. If this size isn’t quite right, Travoca also offers the Rigel lineup in 25L, 45L, and 60L options to suit different setups and trip lengths.

If your priority is maximum storage per pound or ultralight gear, there are better options. But if you’re focused on usability, aesthetics, and versatility, the Rigel 35DZ delivers.
