We’re big fans of the recent evolutions of the Honda Passport in terms of overland capability. The Passport HRC Concept even made our Best Rigs of Overland Expo West 2026. Now, Honda has rolled out a new round of updates for the 2027 Passport TrailSport model that will catch the attention of anyone looking for a capable adventure-rig that serves as a daily driver and heads into the backcountry when the opportunity arises.
From the ground up, the 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport boasts an additional 1.38 inches of ground clearance over the previous model. This brings the total up to 9.7 inches and firmly plants it amongst other adventure wagon options and even beats out some midsize trucks. Along with the new clearance, the approach, departure, and breakover angles have also been improved.
Honda didn’t just add some lift, but instead reworked the majority of the suspension. This not only increased the ride height, but with nearly 70 percent of the major suspension components redesigned in the 2027 TrailSport, this iteration of the Passport has improved articulation and ride quality on the trail.
Another huge plus is that the TrailWatch camera system now comes standard on the TrailSport. This system provides front, side, rear, and 360-degree views to increase confidence on technical terrain. This addition, along with improved trail geometry, pairs nicely with the steel skids, recovery points, and fold-flat seats that already make the Passport TrailSport a great option for an overland build.
Honda knows you don’t mess with a good thing, and the TrailSport is still powered by a 280-horsepower V6 paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The torque-vectoring all wheel drive system provides confidence on sketchy roads and in the backcountry making the TrailSport a trusted companion no matter if you’re commuting or heading to an epic campsite.
With plenty of room for passengers and gear, plus a 5,000-pound payload, the Honda Passport TrailSport is a great option for overlanders who want a mild build that’s also a great daily driver. You can throw cargo boxes on top and sleep inside thanks to the fold-flat seats and smart interior organization. If the Passport serves as a daily driver, you could even have a small off-road trailer staged with everything you need for quick adventures. With backcountry-focused features, we can see that setup being a great option to just hook up the trailer with the Class III hitch, throw some food in the fridge powered by the 115-volt outlet, tell the family to hop in, and go. The 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport will start arriving at dealerships next month, so keep an eye out for the updated model soon.
