Never a Better Time: KTM 890 Adventure

“It has never been a better time to reach out to the world on a bike,” the KTM press release for the new 890 Adventure reads. I couldn’t agree more, especially when you’re reaching out on a fantastic new motorcycle. The word on the street (or singletrack, whatever your preference) is that the 890 Adventure one-ups the incredibly capable KTM 790 while still maintaining that light touch and confidence-inspiring handling.

The new 889 cubic centimeter engine ramps up horsepower and torque while cranking out 90ccs more than the 790. The 20% extra rotating mass of the crankshaft improves engine character at low revs and adds to KTM’s already impressive corning capability. KTM also tuned the clutch on the 890 to cope with the boosted performance.

One of the main complaints about the 790 was the lack of adjustibilty in the suspension (that’s not to say that the suspension was anything shy of rock solid, by the way). The 890’s new WP APEX rear shock offers greater customization potential through a new rebound damping adjuster and an additional hand adjuster for spring preload. You can count on 200mm of suspension travel, perfect for use on the tarmac and the trail.

The 890’s Dakar Rally-inspired ergonomics mean the bike is comparably slim, light and manageable with an accessible 33.5” seat height, a low fender, and KTM MY RIDE with navigation. Plus, the bike features a host of adv-focused goodies including: a 21” front wheel, 5.3-gallon tank, full-size TFT dashboard, Cornering ABS, Motorcycle Traction Control and Motor Slip Regulation, and a strong, yet lightweight, subframe for passenger or baggage.

Rounding out KTM’s middleweight offerings, the 890 will start arriving at dealerships in November. So, if you’re considering a new motorcycle (and, let’s be serious, when are you ever not considering another motorcycle?), there has never been a better time to take a serious look at KTM and this promising new machine.
