Community Spotlight: John Young’s 2019 Honda CRF 450L

Our Community Spotlight series has featured some amazing vehicles. We’ve covered vintage Land Cruisers, well-equipped Jeeps, and even a tiny Japanese camper van. Now, it’s time to check in with an adventurer that prefers two wheels.

John Young’s 2019 Honda CRF 450L is a well-tested machine, even though he’s only had it for a few years. John settled on the CRF 450L because it offered dirt bike agility with some more modern refinements.

To start with, the CRF 450L is fuel injected. John prefers this versus a carburated bike that can be finicky at altitude. That simplicity, paired with Honda’s reliability, made a dual-sport bike that John couldn’t resist.

His first trip on the CRF 450L was a stock affair traveling from Colorado to Moab. After that, John has added some accessories, including a larger fuel tank, a navigation tower, an auto clutch, and a Mosko Moto luggage system. However, John admits that these mods only improved upon an already capable bike.

John has also explored some of the current Backcountry Discovery Routes, and he’s excited to try the new route in Wyoming. We can’t wait to see where he takes his moto after that.
