The Filson brand is synonymous with low-hanging clouds and damp fir forests of the Pacific Northwest. Seattle based, they’ve been making high quality outdoor gear since before the turn of the century. Now, Filson is bringing their “make sure it’s the absolute best” philosophy to motorcycling and they teamed up with Meta to share their gear inspiration with the world.
Filson’s Alcan offerings run the gamut from shop rags to outerwear, all of which are designed for weather protection and abrasion resistance for exploring on your motorcycle or tromping through the backcountry. The collection consists of a couple of jackets, a vest, pants, gloves, and a custom Bell MX-9 Adventure Motorcycle Helmet.
Filson is using premium deerskin for the Alcan Leather Gloves and cotton duck from England’s British Millerain for their pants. The heavy-duty cotton canvas in the Alcan Canvas Cruiser also comes from British Millerain and has been thoroughly saturated with a special paraffin wax mixture; there is no better natural fabric for turning away foul weather.

For the launch of their riding gear, Filson teamed up with Meta to make a lovely little film that gives a poetic glimpse into the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route. If you’re not familiar with Meta, it’s easily one of the best moto publications out there today. Meta produces a quarterly magazine (yes, an actual magazine, printed on actual paper and shipped to your mailbox) that is refreshing and beautifully crafted. Plus, they have a great website full of inspiring stories and great photos.
What’s particularly interesting about Filson’s moto gear is that it all harkens back to simpler times, when natural materials ruled the outdoors. Combine that with Meta’s deft filmmaking skills and you’ve got fresh inspiration, steeped in tradition, that just makes you want to get out and ride.
