Overlanding across the vast Australian continent has been a mainstay of the Australian way of life for generations. Since the early days of Arthur Canning through to modern-day Australian overlanders like Dick Smith and Jase Andrews, adventure is part of who they are.
At Norweld, adventure is in their blood. Everyone from the owners and sales team to those building the flatbeds and canopies have grown up camping and fishing across this vast wonderland. From the remote locations of Cape York Peninsula, Arnhem land, Kakadu and the Kimberley’s. By living the adventure, they’ve come to understand firsthand what is required to traverse such terrains.

Founded over 50 years ago, Norweld Australia is an aluminum fabrication company specializing in revolutionary new storage solutions for life on and off the beaten track – leading an industry of vehicle-based integrated storage solutions from Flat Bed Trays and Canopies.
In 2016, Norweld Australia first arrived in the USA at Overland Expo East, where the concept of the Norweld Flat Bed Tray and Canopy system was met with excitement as something new in the overland market. In 2023 Norweld has now established itself in the United States allowing US-based customers to purchase direct from Norweld USA and have their vehicle fitted with a flat bed tray or canopy at a Norweld location or approved fitting location.
Built tough, built for a lifetime
A lot has changed since the early days of paper-aided design and fabricating by hand. Using state-of-the-art CNC processing technology along with dual pulse mig and tig welding machines, the level of quality, fit, and finish on the Norweld is second to none.

A key part of the design process of the Norweld USA flat beds and canopies is that the people who design these products are also avid overlanders and perform thousands of miles of rigorous testing year after year to ensure the product is fit for purpose and lives up to the name and reliability of what Norweld is known for.
What is a flat bed?

These are normal responses from people looking at the product for the first time. A flat bed is an alternative to the factory bedside or well body that allows you to have a flat surface area for storage over the rear wheels and behind the cab. Similar to the bed on a tractor-trailer or small truck. Norweld takes this concept one step further. They include design elements and features such as water tanks, storage boxes, and rear pull-out drawers and also go as far as to relocate the factory-fitted safety features like cameras, reverse sensors, and driver assist radars. This flat bed is then used as a base for the canopy, a truck camper, or purely on its own as an all round storage solution. Popular with Australian tradespeople, farmers, ranchers, and adventure enthusiasts, the flat bed tray gives the customer endless possibilities with storage and load carrying traditionally not found when using the conventional factory bed side.
What is a Norweld USA Canopy, and what makes it special?
Canopies are traditionally a sealed two or three-door aluminum box which is bolted to a flat bed. Norweld has been building these since 1971 and has evolved the product through decades of research, design, and actual use. With this experience, Norweld USA has designed exclusive aluminum extrusions, proprietary hinges and catches, and unique fabrication practices in the manufacturing of these canopies to allow for what Norweld USA feels is the ultimate solution to the customers’ storage needs for work and play. With the introduction of 12v Fridge/freezer units, lithium batteries, portable solar, and other accessories for overlanding and touring, Norweld USA has developed a range of standard canopies that allow the customer to configure the preset layout to suit the fridge requirements, 12v power needs and also the ability to run a tent, awning or even carry a small boat on the roof of the canopy.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to setting up a vehicle, whether you are a hunter, fisherman, kayaker, or plumber. Norweld USA has the ability to help you configure your canopy to suit your needs and ensure you have a strong, dependable storage solution with decades of history and use in the harshest Australian conditions imaginable.
