Look who is turning the big-4-0. The Toyota 4Runner hits the four-decade milestone in 2023 – and to celebrate, Toyota is offering 4,040 special edition 40th Anniversary 4Runners to the US Market.
The 40th Anniversary Toyota 4Runner Exterior
The 2023 Toyota 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition is based on the SR5 Premium trim level and will be available in three colors: White, Midnight Black Metallic and Barcelona Red Metallic. All colors will sport a retro-inspired yellow, orange, and red swoop – a nod to Toyota’s heritage in the off-road racing arena. The 40th Anniversary 4Runner also proudly wears a Toyota heritage-inspired grille, with T-O-Y-O-T-A spelled out instead of the typical Toyota logo. 40th Anniversary badging with retro colors will also adorn the liftgate of the 4Runner.
The 40th Anniversary Toyota 4Runner features a 270-horsepower DOHC 4.0-liter V6 engine with 278 lb.-ft. of peak torque gives 4Runner plenty of get-up-and-go. The engine’s Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) helps optimize torque across the engine’s operating range, enhancing responsiveness in a variety of driving conditions.

The 40th Anniversary Toyota 4Runner Interior
The anniversary theme continues inside, where the 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition gets exclusive badging on the center console and features a bronze-colored cross-stitch shift knob, bronze-colored seat stitching, 40th Anniversary floor mats and a 40th Anniversary logo on the Black SofTex-trimmed seats. Topping it off is a standard power moonroof.
