My $500 Overland Vehicle

As a self-proclaimed broke college student, Grace Howard, Kids Adventure Program Director for Overland Expo has learned how to make a little money go a long way. She purchased her 1995 Land Rover Discovery 1 for $500, and having done all of the work on it herself, has now put $1921 total into the car. She was able to create a packing and sleeping system with some smart shopping and a little bit of cash.

In her video featured as part of Overland Expo’s Virtual Summer event, “My $500 Overland Vehicle,” Grace discusses how she bought her Land Rover on the cheap and turned it into her very own overlanding vehicle.

Born in Flagstaff, Arizona, Grace came home from the hospital in a Range Rover Classic. She started camping a few months later and now has traveled throughout North America. Grace has been camping, running trails, and just having fun with the Arizona Land Rover Owners Club since before she can remember. Recently, Grace became one of their youngest trail leaders. She has been teaching at Overland Expo since she was ten and is now the Kids Adventure Program Director. Now in college at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, she is studying Environmental Science and Spanish. She is also planning to study abroad in Argentina. For now, she drags her friends around Northern Arizona in her 1995 Land Rover Discovery
