There’s a new overlanding camper on the market, but it’s not exactly new. It’s called Nimbl and it was forged from the remnants of XPCampers.
You might recall seeing the XPC V1 at Overland Expos from years past. Formed in 2007, XPC was sold to Be Change LLC at foreclosure auction in August, 2019. The V1 has been resurrected as Nimbl Evolution.

Based upon those original V1 designs, the camper’s composite structure has been strengthened and weight savings have been found throughout, including the addition of carbon-fiber doors. The result is a stronger, lighter and, therefore more “nimble” overland camper. Clever, right?
The recommended basis for the Evolution is the Ford F-350 powered by the new 7.3-liter gasoline V8 engine backed by a 10-speed automatic. Although diesel power plants are more common in off-road capable campers like the Evolution, Nimbl believes that gasoline engines are more reliable. They require fewer complicated emissions controls and gasoline is more readily available around the world than low-sulfur diesel.

The Nimbl campers feature two sets of solar panels — one 380-Watt setup and another 190-Watt panel. These feed a 200-amp-hour lithium-ion battery system, which, in turn, powers the all-electric cooking system as well as an optional 8,000 Btu A/C system.
Of course, the accoutrements don’t end there. The Evolution boasts a hydraulic roof lift offering 6’6” of headroom, queen-size bed, diesel furnace and water heater, DC compressor fridge, large kitchen and dinette, wet-bath, and exterior shower. The water features are supplied by an onboard 80-gallon fresh water tank backed by a 24-gallon grey water tank.

All of this rides on a 2.5” lift with ICON coil overs in the front and custom forged leaf pack in the rear with ICON remote reservoir shocks at all four corners above 35-inch tires. Either a Dissent or Buckstop bumper with a winch can be specified up front.
The result is a rig with front and rear locking differentials, 48 gallons of gas onboard, and a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 11,900 pounds and costs $249,000. That heft sum includes a $70,000 allowance for the F-350. Of course, you can supply your own one-ton long-bed truck, if you wish.
