Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV): 2025 Backcountry Camper

OEV is known for creating some of the toughest truck campers for Overland travel, made with their proprietary composite walls, aluminum exoskeleton, and aluminum furniture. Just look at their Hudson Bay, High Country, and Summit models, which are available in a flatbed or a frame-mounted version, depending on which one you choose.

Overland Explorer Vehicles pride themselves on using no wood in their construction to ensure a lifetime of abuse with little to no impact on the camper. In other words, your camper will look just as good in 10 years as it did the day you bought it!

That brings us to the camper featured in the Overland Expo Ultimate Build—the Back Country 6.85’ pop-up slide-in truck camper. It shares the same proven DNA as the Hudson Bay, High Country, and Summit models but in a more accessible platform. It is designed for those who want expedition-level quality with the flexibility to use their truck bed during the week and hit the trail on the weekend for a camping trip.

The Back Country comfortably sleeps up to four people, and with its four-season construction and three-season water system, you won’t be limited to the summer months. Built with powder-coated aluminum extrusions and OEV’s Gen 4 Advanced Fiberglass Composite System (AFCS) panels, the walls of Back Country 6.85’ have an R8 insulation value on the composite walls, and the fire-rated soft walls consist of four layers, providing an R4 insulation value.

Dimensions and Compatibility

This model is designed for full-size trucks with beds measuring between 6’0” and 6’8”. When closed, the camper’s external dimensions are 141 inches in length, 81.5 inches in width, and 62 inches in height; when the roof is popped up, the height extends to 85 inches. Inside, it is 137 inches in length, 78 inches in width, and 82 inches tall when open, providing ample space for occupants. With a dry weight of 1,345 pounds (excluding jacks and batteries), the Back Country 6.85’ is compatible with 1/2, 3/4, and 1-ton trucks.

Features

The Back Country 6.85 is equipped with the Truma Aquago on-demand hot water system and a Truma Vario heater, 20 gallons of fresh water, a stainless steel sink with a flush-mount glass top, and a stainless-steel cooktop featuring a cast grill. The electrical system includes a Victron Orion XS Smart 12-50 DC/DC charger and a Victron 100/50 MPPT solar controller, paired with a 220W hail-proof solar panel.

The C-shaped dinette, upholstered with marine-grade fabric and 4-inch medium-density foam cushions, easily converts into a 38” x 77” bed for additional sleeping capacity. The main queen-size bed has a 4-inch combination soft/medium-density mattress with an optional king-bed extension.

If you’re looking for the ultimate Overland truck camper, then you have to check out the full line of OEV truck campers. Oh, and they also make their own flatbed (Aluma Tray) to carry your camper. Do yourself a favor and visit www.overlandex.com to learn more!
