Mark your calendars, as internal documents indicate Ford will open the order books for the new sixth-generation 2024 Ranger pickup in late May – the 26th, to be exact.
According to a post on a Ranger forum, the date has been pushed back from the original date in mind-April. Additionally, the new “job one” date – the date the first production vehicle will be complete – is now August 7th instead of July 10th.
The updated Ranger has company in the mid-size pickup market with the new Chevy Colorado we recently drove, along with numerous offerings from other makes, including the always-popular Toyota Tacoma.
Like the Chevy Colorado, the Ford Ranger will likely be based around a turbo-boosted inline-four cylinder power plant, most likely Ford’s proven 2.3-liter turbo EcoBoost motor. However, a V6 isn’t out of the question as it is an option in other countries, but Ford has not yet specified which motors will be Ranger options for the U.S. The EcoBoost plant is up to the task, with power figures on par with Chevy’s four banger. However, Ford has confirmed to other outlets that there will be a Ranger Raptor model, but no engine specs have been announced for that variant. We will update you as we know more.
The truck itself shares a base chassis with the popular Ford Bronco, with some obvious truck-specific modifications. When the new trucks will actually arrive in showrooms was not detailed in the post, and we suggest hovering over your keyboard on May 26th to get your order in, as it is expected to be popular.
Pricing has not been announced but should be in line with competitors and land in the low-$20,000 to $40,000 range, depending on trims and options. Some rumors suggest a hybrid or full-electric version may appear soon, but not this model year.
