The new wave of mid-sized trucks are popular candidates for overlanding adventures, and camper shell makers are beginning to issue new models that will work better with the new pickups. Scout Campers from Washington-based Adventure Manufacturing is an early adopter and has announced a new model, the Tuktut, that will fit the new Ford Maverick. It will also work with the popular Jeep Gladiator.

The Scout Tuktut is constructed from gel-coated fiberglass over an aluminum frame. This no-wood construction avoids issues with mildew and warpage. Standard features include windows that open, air vents, window shades and screens, and basic lighting.

At a base weight of 634 pounds, the Tuktut, likely at least partially inspired by Canada’s artic Tuktut Nogait National Park, is essentially a shell for owners to build out. Scout offers a range of interior options, of course, as does Goose Gear, maker of camper internals. Goose Gear already has a range of six different “Explore Series” modules, including drawers, racks, fridge holders, and more for the Tuktut. The Maverick’s maximum payload is 1,500 pounds, so there’s some room to add things like water tanks, batteries, solar panels, and more.

Despite the small size, the Scout Tuktut is designed to sleep two people. Interior height is right at six feet, and length is 70 inches, although the alcove top section adds some legroom with some optional interior bed extensions. Fairly tight quarters, but if you don’t want to haul a trailer, it’s an attractive option. Prices start at $16,500 for a base shell that’s ready for outfitting. Scout says they should be ready to mount up in Jeeps and Mavericks this fall.
