Storyteller Overland has been producing adventure-focused vans for nearly a decade, and their latest release is for those who want to take “all” of the toys with them into the backcountry. The new Storyteller GEAR MODE brings the same capability and build quality you’d expect from the brand, but its interior design is distinctly flexible, adapting to the specific trip.
GEAR MODE is Storyteller’s most flexible van.
While many vans require you to work your gear into the available floor plan and storage options, the GEAR MODE lets you easily adapt the interior to suit your needs. For starters, the GearWall™ opens the rear of the van to accommodate moto gear, bulky gear bags, tools, or whatever else you want to haul. With L-track throughout the floor, you can secure your cargo for easy transport. Additional L-track and MOLLE panels allow for customized storage for all of the little things you need to work, camp, and ride. Then, when it’s time for rest and relaxation, the GearShift™ system panels can be arranged into a queen-sized bed, a bench, and a table for dining or work.

As if the flexibility of the van wasn’t enough, the GEAR MODE is available with three different trims to suit any adventurer.
- STR is the clean, capable foundation, riding on BFG KO3 all-terrain tires with prewiring for KC HiLites 360 lighting package.
- ADV adds an nVader roof rack and grab rails, an nVader ladder and rear rack, a manual awning, a second soft storage cabinet, an upgraded wheel and tire package, and a second Lithionics battery.
- MAX is built for the hardest trails, with the Evictus Advanced Kit, a KC HiLites 360 lighting package, an nVader rear rack with spare tire bucket, an nVader brush guard, and no-rub fenders and flares.

All three are equipped with a Lithionic power system in either 4kWh or 8kWh configurations, and the option to upgrade to 11.9kWh if you’re in need of serious power. Plus, you’ll find a high-output auxiliary alternator, a 2000W inverter, and prewiring for up to 1,500W of solar. A diesel-fired hydronic heater, a 12V rooftop air conditioner, a 20-gallon fresh water tank, and an exterior shower round out the van to keep you comfortable in the backcountry no matter the conditions.
The GEAR MODE is a great option for anyone looking for a van that can do it all. It can be a work van, a toy hauler, a mobile office, and a comfortable backcountry basecamp at the same time. Swapping the interior between hauling gear to resting up for the next adventure is super simple, and it’s all backed by the van-building experts at Storyteller. We’ve seen some cool DIY options for vans that can do it all, and there are some other options for flexible interior builds, but the GearWall and GearShifts systems give the end user a simple way to make the space inside the van work for them.
The GEAR MODE, like the rest of the lineup, is backed by a 1-year/15,000-mile Storyteller Overland limited warranty and a 5-year/75,000-mile Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty. The GEAR MODE will be available nationwide in the next couple of months, with pricing ranging from $149,497 for the STR trim to $187,493 for the MAX level.
