The Mountain God is the Five Door Suzuki Jimny You Didn’t Know You Wanted

Ever since the introduction of the fourth generation Suzuki Jimny in 2018 the 4-wheeling world has been obsessed with it. Not only is it a good looking vehicle harkening back to the SJ410/413 second generation Jimny, it also retains the Jimny’s legendary off-road prowess. Countless reviews have been written in Europe and Australia touting it as the ultimate low budget off-roader. While those of us here in the States only dream of getting our hands on one.

Well, students at the Nihon Automobile College (NATS) have created another tantalizing piece of forbidden fruit for us to salivate over. A five door Jimny called Kimun Kamy, or Mountain God, debuted this past January at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

The students started with one of their instructors Jimny’s and stretched it an incredible 16 inches to add those two extra doors. Then they lifted it six inches and stuffed 35-inch mud terrains under it. Custom front and rear bumpers were added as well as an integrated roll cage/roof rack all topped off with a roof top tent.

Now, Jimny’s are not known for their ample power. From the factory they sport only 100 HP and 95 lb-ft of torque under the hood. To help propel this undoubtedly heavier version of the Jimny, NATS added a turbo kit that bumps the power up to 123 HP and 132 lb-ft of torque. A nice increase, but you’re still probably not going to win any speed contests.

While only a design study, the Kimun Kamy is a pretty cool concept and it sure would be fun to try it for a weekend trip to see how it handles the trails out here in the US.
