Pickup owners have plenty of ways to build out a camping setup, from toppers and rooftop tents to wedge campers and full slide-ins. Wild Land’s new PickupMate lineup takes a different approach by adding expandable living space while preserving the truck’s everyday utility underneath.
The idea is simple: keep the system relatively compact while driving, then expand it once you reach camp. Installation avoids permanent modifications to the truck, making PickupMate an interesting option for owners who still need their pickup to function like a pickup during the week.
Three PickupMate Configurations
Wild Land currently offers three versions of PickupMate.

The PickupMate Trunk creates a two-level setup with an elevated sleeping and living area while leaving the original truck bed accessible below. That separation could be especially useful for overlanders carrying recovery gear, bikes, camp equipment, or other bulky cargo they don’t want sharing space with their sleeping setup.

The Wingman X takes the concept further with a powered lifting system that creates separate upper and lower living areas at camp. It incorporates features including lighting, windows, an awning, a table, storage panels, and an integrated audio system.

At a claimed 615 pounds, however, the Wingman X is substantial enough that payload becomes an important consideration. Once passengers, water, fuel, recovery gear, and camping equipment are added, owners will need to pay close attention to their truck’s GVWR and available payload.

The WinTopper is the most conventional of the three, combining secure bed storage with an expandable canopy-style living area. Integrated accessory rails also allow additional gear such as a rooftop tent, solar panels, awnings, or cargo equipment to be mounted above the bed.
Keeping the Truck Useful
For overlanders who use the same vehicle for commuting, hauling gear, and weekend travel, that versatility may be PickupMate’s biggest selling point.
A traditional camper can provide significantly more comfort, but it can also add permanent height, weight, and bulk. PickupMate instead puts much of its living space into the deployed configuration, allowing the truck to retain a more conventional footprint on the road.
There are still tradeoffs. Weight and payload will matter, particularly with the Wingman X, and Wild Land notes that its connection to the pickup bed is not completely waterproof, so sensitive equipment may still need additional protection. But for anyone who likes the idea of a more substantial camp setup without permanently transforming their truck into a dedicated camper, PickupMate offers an interesting middle ground between a rooftop tent and a full pickup camper.
Wild Land plans to display the PickupMate lineup at SEMA 2026 in Las Vegas, November 3–6.
