The Honda XR650L Gets a Fresh Look for 2022

Honda’s tried-and-true XR650L is back with a fresh look for 2022. Virtually unchanged since its release in the early 90s, the 650’s graphic makeover may just be the most dramatic revision this bike has seen in 30 years of production.

Honda is wise to adopt an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” philosophy with the XR650L. Everything about this bike is rugged, simple, and proven. The 644cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine is as carbureted as it ever was. With its bombproof steel frame, long-travel suspension, and reliable electric starter, the 650 has stood the test of time for good reason.

While the XR is still as tough as an anvil, for 2022, it has black rims to match the black seat, tool bag, and fork gaiters. Its new white-on-white bodywork has a clean look, and the new tank graphics pay tribute to the XR’s Baja heritage. Weighing in at 346 pounds with the 2.8 gallon tank topped off, it’s easy enough to hoist out of the dirt when you drop it having too much fun.

The four-stroke engine is low maintenance and fuel-efficient, clocking 52 miles-per-gallon. The 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel is combined with 11.6 inches of suspension travel to make the 650 a champion in the dirt. It’s also fully street legal and roomy enough to carry a passenger.

Honda calls the XR650 the “ultimate post-apocalyptic commuter,” and it truly opens the door to adventure. Highly adaptable, it makes easy work of single-track and backroads while also delivering capable transportation in the city.

The word on the street is that the 2022 XR650L will hit US dealerships in April, and the MSRP is set at $6,999. When you factor in that maintenance costs will be pennies on the dollar compared to other adventure motorcycles, that is an incredible price for a bike you can always count on, no matter how gnarly the road before you gets.
