Jeep’s New ‘Farout’ Concept Shows the Stylish Side of Overlanding

Finally, we now know what a bright and cheerful Jeep Gladiator overlanding concept would look like.

It’s called the ‘Farout.” And it is a followup to Jeep’s previous — and much more tactical and extreme in appearance — ‘Wayout’ concept. While the Wayout looks like it was designed to traverse Africa, the much more mellow Farout looks at home parked next to a serene river.

That riverside motif is set off by the “Earl” body paint color and the wood-bottomed roof rack over the cab. Inside, although it didn’t provide renderings, Jeep claims occupants will find “dark smoke blue” leather, orange accent stitching and plaid flannel seat inserts, which sound lovely. In there, too, wood trim accents bring a taste of the woods inside. We can only assume the interior wood matches that of the roof rack.

The fashion-forward interior is illuminated by soft accent lighting. More than just stylish, the interior includes a functional fridge and stove, hanging storage racks, and a built-in seats and table space. All of that is topped off with a Habitat topper made by AT Overland that looks like it was carved from marble. When full deployed the rooftop tent is 16 feet long and 7.5 feet wide. That’s enough space to comfortably sleep four and, honestly, bigger than some big-city apartments.

Don’t let stylish color scheme deceive you, though, the Farout is no softy. It’s based upon the rough-and-tumble Gladiator Rubicon and has been up-fitted with the MOPAR two-inch lift kit. This enabled designers to stuff 37-inch mud-terrain tires underneath it at four corners.

The rig is powered by Jeep’s new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, which, Jeep claims, returns 28 miles per gallon —  the best fuel range in its class.

Although the custom RTT is likely something you’ll never see offered as a factory accessory from your local Jeep dealer, hopefully these color and design inspirations make their way into production Gladiators going forward. I mean, I don’t know about you, but I’d love a dark-blue leather interior in my next Gladiator.
