Toyota brought the full-sized action to The SEMA Show 2026 by showing off their latest factory-equipped, overland-ready offerings. The Trailhunter badge can now be found on the Sequoia and Tundra for 2027.

2027 Sequoia Trailhunter

For starters, the Trailhunter formula has now been applied to the Sequoia. I was impressed when I reviewed the Sequoia TRD Pro, but the Trailhunter brings overland focus to the beloved family hauler.

The 2027 Sequoia Trailhunter includes Old Man Emu suspension, Michelin LTX tires, additional underbody protection, a locking rear diff, Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select, and Trailhunter aesthetic updates. There isn’t much more you could really want from factory built overland vehicle.

This setup is a great option for someone looking for a trail-ready full-sized SUV that offers plenty of interior space, no matter if you’re looking to haul gear or your friends and family.
2027 Tundra Tailhunter

We got a first look at the Tundra Trailhunter earlier this year at Overland Expo Mountain West 2026, and we were impressed.
With many of the same features and upgrades as the new Sequoia, the Tundra of course also offers a truck bed. This of course is great for adding a camper, bed-rack/tent combo, or whatever else you might desire for backcountry, overland adventures.
2027 Toyota Overland Lineup

Since the debut of the Tacoma Trailhunter, and then 4Runner Trailhunter, this trim has offered great off-road and overland-focused features that provide a ready-made rig straight from the factory. Now, there’s a Trailhunter for just about any vehicle across the Toyota midsized through full-sized and SUV through pickup spectrum.
Full-sized rigs offer additional towing capacity, and the 2027 Tundra and Sequoia have nearly identical specs: 437 horsepower and 538 lb.-ft. of torque.
The Tundra offers 12,000 pounds of towing capacity, with the Sequoia coming in at 9,520 pounds. Both would make great options for towing appropriate trailers if you’re taking the whole crew or a whole lot of gear on your overland adventures.

Beyond the numbers, both models now have additional tech for towing with Automated Trailer Detection that identifies a connected trailer and measures the dimensions. This is applied to the Trailer Blind Spot Monitor, Trailer Lane Trace Assist, and Trail Backup Guide, which take most of the trouble out of towing.

The momentum of the overland industry continues, and it’s great to see big car manufactures like Toyota continue to embrace it. The 2027 Tacoma, 4Runner, Tundra, and Sequoia all get Trailhunter editions. Could we see the badge on a Land Cruiser next?
