Overland Expo Mountain West is just around the corner, and if you’re bringing your pint-sized adventure buddies, you don’t want to miss out on the family-friendly program. All weekend long, there are great opportunities for kids to get involved with the fun, plus parents who are curious about taking their kids on the road have a great chance to learn from some seriously well-traveled parents.

For starters, kids don’t want to miss the RC off-road driving course sponsored by the Overland Expo Foundation. They can steer RC cars around a course that includes all the challenges and obstacles you’re likely to find deep in the backcountry. The course is open all Friday 1 PM – 3:50 PM, Saturday 10 AM – noon, Saturday 1 PM – 3:50 PM, and Sunday 10 AM – noon, so be sure to stop by for miniature off-road action.

If you’re considering taking your family on the road long-term, or maybe you’re just curious how parents even manage such a feat, you need to check out Overlanding as a Kid: What We Packed and What We Learned with the Lostetter Family. Overlanding as a kid is way different than it is for adults. You’re stuck in the car, you need to stay entertained, and there’s never enough space for all your stuff. This class is for kids (and parents!) who want real advice from two kids who have been there. We’ll share what we’ve learned about staying busy on long drives, what we wish we packed, and what we totally didn’t need. We’ll also tell stories about the weird, fun, and crazy things we’ve done, like eating guinea pig or jumping off cliffs, because the best part of overlanding is trying new things and getting out of your comfort zone. Come hang out and get inspired to make your own adventures! The Lostetter family is hosting the session in the Kids Adventure Area on Friday at 11 AM and on Saturday at 9 AM. You can learn more about the Lostetters in the Instructor Spotlight linked below.
