Looking for a way to have an adventure while you’re snowed in or locked down at home this winter? Reece Gilkes and Matt Bishop, the hosts and creators of the Armchair Adventure Festival, are launching a new virtual event later this month called “Bootcamp.” Co-creator, Reece Gilkes says, “The Armchair Adventure Festival was all about inspiring people with stories of adventure.
Bootcamp takes it one step further. It’s a weekends crash course on all the things people will need to know get the most out of their own adventures.”
The inaugural event will take place February 26-28, 2021 and will feature some of the top names in overland and adventure travel: “There will be Masterclasses in ‘Adventure Travel Film Making’ from Austin Vince, ‘Adventure Photography’ from Lisa and Simon Thomas of 2 Ride the World, a workshop in ‘What Gear To Take For That Adventure’ from Sam Manicom and much, much, more,” says Bishop.

The event registration fee is £45/$61.40USD and an add-on ticket for a friend to participate via the same link can be purchased for £10/$13.64USD. Event registration gives attendees access to 16 hours of classes and videos and an “Armchair Adventure Festival Bootcamp” notebook and sticker. Recordings of the sessions will be available to attendees for an additional six months after the event concludes.
As for the inspiration for the Bootcamp, Bishop and Gilkes are familiar with overland adventure travel themselves. Known as “The Sidecar Guys,” the duo circumnavigated the world by scooter and sidecar in 2017/2018. “It’s something we really wish we’d have had the opportunity to do before our own trip, it would have saved us so much time and money.’
