The AT Overland Aterra XL is Like No Other Camper

The truck camper pioneers at AT Overland are once again bringing a unique product to the overland market. In collaboration with Tern Overland, AT Overland will build the Aterra XL campers at their Prescott Valley, AZ factory. The camper will be compatible with any flatbed equipped one-half, three-quarters, or 1-ton full-sized truck that meets the 80 x 80-inch minimum footprint requirement.

The Aterra XL is engineered to be the first lightweight fully enclosed four-season camper available in the North American market. The lightweight coated honeycomb composite shell is paired with an intelligent design to create a camper that only weighs 1,100 lbs. and offers an incredible number of features in a small package.

The initial prototype camper has been developed over the last two years. This mid-sized unit weighs just 506 lbs., and leaves plenty of weight for gear and supplies before approaching the Tacoma’s 1,100 lb. payload rating. Initially, AT Overland will only produce the XL version, but other models (hopefully including this Tacoma model) will be added to the lineup over time. You can learn more about the mid-sized prototype unit in the Expedition Portal video below.

The side entrance allows for a rear seating area, galley kitchen, and easy access to the over-cab queen-sized bed. Five Artic Tern double pane acrylic windows allow ample light to enter the Aterra, and they are equipped with reflective privacy curtains and screens for when you need to keep the light and bugs out. Just because the Aterra is lightweight doesn’t mean it forgoes the convenience and durability that long-term travelers require to take their rig deep into the backcountry. AT Overland has packed all of the creature comforts into the 85 sq. ft.
