Adventure Motorcycle Author Takes Viewers ‘From Africa to the Silk Road’ via Zoom

Due to COVID-19, book shops and libraries in Australia (and throughout much of the world) are unable to hold in-person author talks. But thanks to technology like Zoom Meetings, presentations that previously would have only reached the audiences that could be accommodated within the walls of these edifices, can now be enjoyed by thousands around the world.

On Friday, December 11, 2020, at 7 pm ET, renowned adventure motorcycle author and previous Overland Expo presenter, Heather Ellis, will hold a Zoom presentation titled, “From Africa to the Silk Road.”

Ellis learned how to ride motorcycles while growing up on a sheep station in the Australian Outback. Twenty years later, she left her job working as a radiation safety technician at a uranium mine in Australia to ride her Yamaha TT600, from the bottom to the top of Africa. She stopped in London to save up money by working as a motorcycle courier and then headed East to explore the Silk Road and Central Asia on a solo adventure.

Heather Ellis has authored two books about her travel experiences: Ubuntu: One Woman’s Motorcycle Odyssey Across Africa (Black Inc., 2016) and Timeless On The Silk Road: An Odyssey From London to Hanoi (Phonte Publishing, 2019).

During her presentation, Zoom participants can expect Heather Ellis to share tales about her remarkable personal interactions with remote African tribes, harrowing survival stories (like the time she befriended armed bandits), and her simultaneous journeys of personal and spiritual growth. Those wishing to participate must register (for free) via the Snowy Monaro Regional Library’s Eventbrite site. A confirmation email will be sent with a link enabling the registrant to join the Zoom presentation.

Of her upcoming presentation, Ellis says, “I really miss speaking in person…but one of the advantages is readers can still learn about my travels and ask questions from anywhere in Australia and the world.”
