Gear Showcase: Campsite Gear and Camp Kitchen

While there are plenty of adventurers that camp year around, most of the country is just getting into prime camping season as the temperatures drop and the bugs retreat. It’s time to gather around the campfire, cook dinner with your crew, and enjoy the chill as it gets dark a bit early each evening. This month, we’ve rounded up some great gear to help you cook some delicious camp fare, keep your camp lit long after sunset, and to relax in the backcountry this fall.

7/4 Grills — MBRR Grill

The MBRR is a unique wood-burning portable grill that is ideal for camping, overlanding, tailgating, and more! What makes the MBRR unique? It’s the only grill on the market that produces embers in fifteen minutes or less, just like a rocket stove, while offering other benefits. The MBRR has two cooking areas to maximize the amount someone can prepare food on. All while being incredibly portable and easy to use. Additionally, the MBRR is constructed of stainless steel and made in the USA. It’s quality and durability are unmatched by any other portable grill or stove on the market.

Portability and Ease of Use

The foldable design of the MBRR allows for easy transportation and storage. Setting up the MBRR takes seconds, and you can be cooking in less than twenty minutes. After loading wood into the MBRR and starting your fire, it produces embers to cook over in fifteen minutes or less. There is no need to carry around gas, propane, or charcoal, and you don’t have to wait forty-five minutes for your fire to produce embers. Taking down the MBRR is also accomplished in seconds, and once folded up, the MBRR is easily transported and takes up very little room compared to other portable grills.

Wood-Fired Cooking

If you can find wood nearby to build a fire with, you can cook a meal on the MBRR! Cooking over wood produces a great flavor and, what’s more, it’s fun! The MBRR can also use charcoal which can heat up fast, just like a wood fire in the grill’s chimney. 7/4 now offers a propane insert kit as well. This means that the MBRR is the only portable grill on the market that can cook on wood, charcoal, or gas! One portable grill that can cook anywhere the road takes you with ease!

Devos Outdoor — LightRanger 2000

For thousands of Overlanders, the Devos LightRanger has become an indispensable piece of camping gear. Whether you’re setting up camp after sunset, cooking at night, working on the vehicle, or ensuring safety for family and friends around the campsite, the LightRanger has quickly become the one light that does it all. The newest edition to the line, the LightRanger 2000, is truly a game-changing piece of equipment.

The result of thousands of customers input on their original 1200 lumen area light, the LightRanger 2000’s robust new design represents hundreds of hours of design and development. Like its name implies, the latest LightRanger packs a punch with 2,000 constant lumens of brightness all being spread downward from an elevated height (now up to 10 feet.)

The direction of the light can be easily adjusted based on which LED panels are selected to be on, and with all 4 sides running at max brightness, the LightRanger 2000 can illuminate an expansive 80-foot diameter area for 4 hours. Just needing a little ambient light in one direction? The LightRanger 2000 is dimmable down to 20% and at minimum lumens can run for nearly 50 hours thanks to a new high-power 67 watt Li-ion battery.

The most anticipated feature of the new LightRanger is the unmatched control offered through the  Devos Bluetooth app. From the Devos app, you can turn your light on or off, dim it down to 20%, control which of the four sides are on, change between White, Amber, and Red LED colors (no more colored filter kit needed), and check your light’s battery level.

In the camp kitchen, where space is at a premium and gear needs to be multi-functional, the LightRanger 2000 really shines. Its robust new tripod and pole design incorporates spring-loaded aluminum legs, two footprint width settings, integrated ground stakes (that store in the tripod feet), and a telescoping range from just 36 inches up to 10 feet while weighing only 5 lbs. This keeps the bugs even further above you and eliminates the need for multiple light sources, streamlining your gear and making setup and breakdown faster and easier.

The removable handle is simple in its design, so there are few things that can go wrong. Utilizing only three moving parts, the handle requires no mounting hardware on the pan. It can be easily removed while cooking, encouraging live fire without burning hands, use of multiple pans with only one handle, or expanding recipes to include cooking in an oven. The handle can also lock in place so it’s there when needed, making it easy to sautĂ© some vegetables or flip a pancake.  Simple materials and design ensure that these pans will last a lifetime of good meals and great adventures.

GOSO Cookware was born from the love of the outdoors and good food and was spurred into existence by frustration with the current camp cookware on the market. The founder, Brent Firkser, spent many years guiding backcountry experiences and relaxing in nature with friends, always trying to cook better and better meals. Not being satisfied with the status quo of camp cookware, he fed his hunger for something better and the Everywhere Pan was born.

For the people at GOSO, The thing that elevates an adventure from great to sublime is a good meal. Everyone can remember that epic meal they had in a beautiful place with great friends too. GOSO’s mission is to make that experience more common by providing quality cookware that makes it easier for people to cook as they do at home, wherever their adventure finds them. GOSO stands for Get Outside, Stay Outside, and that’s exactly what they want people to do. Get out in nature with good friends and enjoy a great meal together.

After premiering their product at Overland Expo PNW this year, they launched a successful crowdfunding campaign where they raised over $120k with their initial product offering, gaining over 850 backers, many of them ready to get cooking this fall. With The Everywhere Pan, GOSO Cookware is set to redefine camp cooking.

Simply put, if you’re serious about cooking good meals, The Everywhere Pans are going to be your new standard in camp cooking.

Overland Kitchen — EXM1 Low-Profile Stove & Workspace Cabinet

Overland Kitchen first came on the scene in 2016 with its innovative all-stainless-steel design, giving SUV owners the ability to quickly deploy prep-surface and cookware storage for a satisfying meal no matter where their adventures led. Their vision for the ideal overland expedition includes enjoying delicious, nourishing foods that are hassle-free to prepare and simple to pack up when finished. It’s a vision that led to the creation of products serving travelers and vehicles of all kinds. Beyond SUVs, Overland Kitchen has expanded to include models ranging from crossovers to trucks and vans. One needn’t be on an expedition to appreciate spending less time setting up kitchen space and more time enjoying delicious food in any setting.

Overland Kitchen introduces its latest design, a 10” tall low-profile steel kitchen for crossovers, mini-vans, and SUVs. Offering a telescoping workspace, stove shelf, and cookware storage, this compact cabinet packs a generous amount of usability into a modest space. The all new EXM1 Low-Profile Stove & Workspace Cabinet stands alone or can be combined with other 10″ EXM series cabinets to customize your own unique build. Installation can be as simple as strapping it down to your vehicle’s cargo rings or permanently mounting it as part of a larger vehicle build. The low profile height means possibilities now include integrating your kitchen space into a bed platform or a pull-out from the side of a rear door.

As always, each EXM1 unit is robotically formed and hand-assembled in Canada using the same durable powder-coated steel cabinet and #304 food-grade stainless steel kitchen that sets Overland Kitchens apart. New to this product is an included heat-resistant Richlite cutting board which adds extra workspace when covering the cookware storage basin or can be used separately on top of the stainless steel work surface. The same reasons stainless steel is a favorite in the food industry are the same reasons it’s great for outdoor cooking use. It is non-reactive to the elements, easy to clean up, and you never have to worry about weather damage. All-metal construction also means maximum storage capacity for the same footprint as compared with other materials. Perfect for overlanders seeking convenience and durability without compromising space.

Whether you choose your vehicle kitchen for rugged off-road expeditions or daily on-the-go meals, the EXM1 all-steel construction is designed to endure the test of time and bumps in the road. Overland Kitchen satisfies the desire for quick access to your meal-time essentials, all while keeping your gear secure in transit. Made in Canada and globally shipped, this is the ultimate compact kitchen for overland enthusiasts and nomads alike.

Power Tank — BKT-2385 LOCKER Bracket for 5 lb. Propane Tanks

Power Tank has been in the off-road industry since their inception in 1997 so they know a thing or two about what the needs of overland rigs are. Namely, functional, well-made, and durable products that enhance both capabilities and aesthetics.

The LOCKER Bracket for 5 lb propane tank brackets is the latest in a family of propane and CO2 tank brackets and is, itself, an update on The Original propane tank bracket. It fits all 5 lb steel propane tanks with an 8-inch diameter. The LOCKER Bracket combines the rigid, tig-welded aluminum frame of The Original and trades out the t-bolt strap for a lockable stainless-steel quick-release latch borrowed from Power Tank’s other Baja 1000 proven brackets. Also new is the ability to remove the strap entirely and switch the latch from the right or the left using corrosion-resistant stainless steel hardware. This gives more mounting flexibility as well as the option to remove the strap so it’s not flopping around when it is not securing a tank.

When the strap is in place, rubber trim and new larger rubber bumpers on the powdercoated frame prevents rattles and noise on even the roughest washboard trails. The quick-release latch is adjustable for a snug fit and a lock tab allows you to add a padlock for externally mounted tanks.

The compact design and lightweight at 1.75 lbs make the LOCKER Bracket an easy addition to any adventure vehicle. That extends to ease of installation through the use of the Power Tank’s many compatible vehicle mounts. Predrilled holes in the back mate directly to Power Tank roll bar clamps, ladder cross-bar kits, MOLLE Power Plates, and most of Power Tank’s vehicle-specific mounts for Jeep Wranglers, New Ford Broncos, and 5th Gen 4Runners. Their newest vehicle mount happens to mate perfectly with Project M Campers. Additional holes on the floor allow for more custom mounting options. Unlike other brackets on the market, the LOCKER Bracket has a flat back with no protruding rubber bumpers for wall and panel mounts. Power Tank also helpfully lists dimensions and drawings so you can ensure a proper fit before clicking buy now.

Need more gas? Check out this and Power Tank’s full line of propane tank brackets on Powertank.com where you’ll see brackets for Viking composite tanks, aluminum propane tanks, and larger steel propane tanks.
