Rooftop tents need no introduction, but if you’re driving a lighter-weight rig, an RTT on a diet is a good choice. Fortunately, Inspired Overland now offers a hardshell rooftop tent that comes in at a feathery 80 pounds, thanks to a shell made from carbon fiber.
The California-based Inspired Overland says the Carbon Fiber Lightweight Rooftop Tent features an aluminum frame and a lightweight carbon fiber shell that will allow mounting cross bars. The tent folds down to less than five inches tall for transport.
The tent fabric keeps out wet weather, and a large rainfly includes a star-friendly skylight. Two more ducts allow for pumping in heat or AC. An inflatable air mattress is included. Hydraulic struts make setup and takedown simple and fast. Storage pockets, a ladder, and large side windows round out the features.
Pricing starts at $2,399, and color options are pretty much limited to the black carbon fiber weave of the shell and a green exterior, with interior pockets a bright orange for better visibility in low light.
Inspired Overland says the lightweight setup will be available in the spring. Buyers can save on shipping by picking up the tent from one of five IO locations, including the company’s headquarters in Hayward, California, as well as in Chino. Other locations include Memphis, Chicago, and Baltimore.
