The “Defender Above & Beyond Service Awards” program is aimed at assisting US-based charitable organizations with achieving their community service goals in the following areas:

  • Search and Rescue

  • Coastal and Marine Conservation

  • Animal Welfare

  • First Responders

  • Environmental

  • Urban Improvement

  • Fire Services

In honor of 70 years of vehicle production, Land Rover will give seven “specially outfitted” Defenders to an organization in each of the above categories. Search and Rescue and Coastal and Marine Conservation will be the first categories to be able to enter the contest. The remaining categories will be able to submit entries throughout the summer. 501(c)(3)1 non-profits can self-nominate or be nominated by someone else. They must complete an entry form and submit a short video detailing the mission of the charity, how it meets a need in the local community, and how a Defender would be of assistance in meeting that need.

“Defender vehicles have been used for various humanitarian causes around the world for decades and with its recent return to the U.S., we wanted to expand on that legacy with ‘The Defender Above & Beyond Service Awards’ and celebrate organizations that know the value of community and drive to do great things with them,” said Joe Eberhardt, President & CEO, Jaguar Land Rover North America. “Over this past year, we have been inspired by the endless acts of service from people who embody the Above and Beyond spirit of Land Rover, and we’re excited to reward these individuals with new customized Defender vehicles so they can continue to help those around them.”

A panel of judges will make a selection of finalist entries which will be posted on Land Rover’s website. The public will be able to cast their vote starting on April 21, 2021. Winners will be announced on September 2, 2021.
