Winter riding is about to get a whole lot more fun with all-electric moonbikes

When there’s snow on the ground, I usually think twice about heading out for a motorcycle ride. That said, I might reconsider my fair weather riding ways if I had an awesome little snowbike in the toy collection.

MoonBikes, who just completed a €650,000 fundraising campaign (that’s an impressive 800,000 US dollars, by the way), saw a need for more winter mobility and they are poised to start production of their fully electric snow rovers sometime this year.

With two years of R&D and a season of snow in the French Alps under their belts, the fledgling startup is currently taking preorders for their little machines. MoonBikes’ mission is “to revolutionize mobility in snowy environments by offering a simple, ultra-light, 100% electric solution that is more respectful of mountains.” And, boy does this little ripper look like a ton of fun!

With a top speed of 28 miles per hour and a curb weight of 176 pounds with one battery installed, the snowbikes have four horsepower electric motors that run on “a pair of batteries that can provide between 11 and 22 miles of range each, meaning you should easily get a day’s riding in before recharging,” reports The Sportsman.

Pricing and complete specifications for the silent MoonBikes are’t available quite yet but, if you happen to be in France, you can try one out. The Tignes Ski Resort is offering guided 30 minute demos that should be a blast.
