Another Overland Expo, another several thousand awesome rigs of every imaginable shape, size, and intention. All weekend long, our team was searching the Ranch in Loveland, Colorado, looking for unique builds, capable rigs, and the adventure vehicles that really jump out. This is never an easy task, because everywhere there’s an overland build that someone is passionate about, and we love them all. Unfortunately we could never feature even a small percentage of the vehicles we see, but presented in no particular order here are some of the best rigs from Overland Expo Mountain West 2026.
Toyota Hilux Champ Concept
No need to bury the lead. Arguably the most popular truck at Overland Expo Mountain West was this green machine that Toyota surprised everyone with. This concept is based on the Hilux Champ that’s currently available in Thailand and other markets, but with a few twists. For starters, this concept is built on a shorter chassis from the new Land Cruiser FJ platform, and unlike the production versions, it’s powered by a 4.0L V6 gasoline engine rather than the 2.4L turbo-diesel engine. Underneath, a solid rear axle, a hi/low transfer case, and a lift suspension all look trail-ready. The Hilux Champ is outfitted with TJM accessories throughout, including an awning, lights, bed rack, and a receiver-mounted winch that can be utilized on either end of the truck. Toyota seems interested in bringing something similar
Titan Vans Volkswagen ID Buzz Conversion
VW vans have been iconic adventure vehicles for as long as they’ve existed. Now, Titan Vans out of Boulder, CO is bringing the same level of utility and comfort that made the split window models, Vanagons, and Eurovans favorite platforms to the new ID Buzz. Featuring a full side-lift roof and slide-out sleep platform, the Titan Vans Conversion. With an internal ladder to access the sleeping area and over eight feet of standing room, the ID Buzz offers plenty of room for gear, people, and customization. The rig is also lifted XYZ to fit larger all-terrain tires, adding some trail capability to an already impressive build.
The Ultimate DIY 1997 K3500
The DIY Showcase is always a great spot to find rigs built by passionate overlanders looking to make a vehicle their own in order to better explore, and that’s exactly what Levi Palmer has built with this 1997 3500 Chevrolet pickup. Owner Levi Palmer bought it with only 62,000 miles on the odometer and turned it into an incredible adventure rig for him and his family. The most obvious mod is the fully custom-built camper that’s filled with smart design and a homey interior. It’s constructed of composite panels and architectural aluminum for a lightweight but strong living area that also has incredible R value. Levi shortened the wheelbase, added auxiliary fuel storage, a solid front axle swap, regeared the truck, added front and rear lockers, custom leaf springs, and 40-inch tires mounted to 17-inch wheels. But what we really love is that this truck gets used. It’s a family camping rig that’s obviously gone on some adventures and made a lot of memories.
Hankook Tires Nissan Project X
This one-of-a-kind build in the Hankook Tire booth was eye-catching for more reasons than just the color. Project X is the passion project of Nick Sherr, aka Nismo Nick, and it really has to be seen in person to fully appreciate it. With a front clip borrowed from the current Frontier pickup, the rear section of a 2008 Xterra, and the V8 motor, axles, and suspension from the Titan, it’s incredibly well meshed together. The build is rounded out with a custom hood, custom carbon fiber interior panels, and several Z1 components like the snorkel and suspension upgrades. Of course, it’s also outfitted with a number of awesome upgrades from Nismo’s catalog of performance parts.
Supertramp Campers Paragon
An expedition rig, built on a flexible platform, with plenty of storage space for gear. What’s not to love? The Supertramp Campers Paragon includes a massive gear garage that can store two mountain bikes away from the elements, and the rest of your gear. Inside, a wet bath makes it easy to get cleaned up after a day of exploring. The interior is maximized for livability with a rear dinette that converts into a full bed and a king-sized bed beneath a huge skylight. Long-term trips are easy with the 40-gallon fresh water tank, an induction stove, and modular storage throughout. Power needs are covered with 660w of solar panels, a 3,000w inverter, and up to 900Ah of Renogy battery capacity. Plus, it’s available in single, extended, and crew cab configurations to match the needs of any traveler.
Lexus LX 470 Custom Camper
The LC100 platform is legendary for its durability, capability, and longetivity, so it’s a great candidate for a heavy modification like this build. This conversion offers a huge amount of space, a king sized bed, plenty of organization and storage, and a pass through. The amazing part is the conversion weighs almost exactly the same amount of weight that was removed during the process so it’s below GVWR. The owner, NomadicMichael, has done a great job outfitting it, and by keeping it lightweight with a low center of gravity it’s still plenty capable for technical trails.
Rally Inspired Subarua Crosstrek
We love a good adventure wagon especially one that has seen a few dings and scratches, and this 2016 Crosstrek from the Subaru booth shows it’s seen some adventures and it’s ready for more. If you don’t believe us just check out owner Milton Salguero’s Instagram. With an Fb25 engine swap, a transmission swap that includes 4.11 gearing from an Outback, and a TORQ Masters rear differential locker it has plenty of added capability, and that’s just what’s below the surface. It’s also outfitted with off-road bumpers, additional skid plates, Diode Dynamic Lights, a roofrack, 30-inch AT tires, and upgraded suspension components.
Rocky Mountain Rivian + XYZ Combo
This Compass Yellow Rivian R1T was sitting just inside the gate, and paired with the High Altitude XT50 custom trailer, it was an eye-catching combo. The R1T includes two aftermarket slide-outs, one for tools and the other for gear storage, and it’s the perfect way to capitalize on the Rivian’s Gear Tunnel. With a sliding bed cover and crossbars, there’s plenty of room for cargo. The High Altitude XT50’s rear kitchen and spacious interior provide a perfect backcountry basecamp. KTM 990 Adventure with Custom Sidecar
We saw plenty of cool adventure bikes, but this one jumped out at us for a rather obvious reason. This KTM is outfitted with a custom sidecar for cargo, and arguably more importantly, the sidecar serves as a mounting location for the custom radiator from a Mini Cooper. With plenty of space for gear and cooling power, there’s room for cool stuff, like a receiver hitch-mounted hammock stand. The side car and rear tire are the same size for added utility and ease of use. This is a great bike build that’s obviously seen some awesome adventures.
