Overland Expo East is just around the corner on October 23-25, 2026, and the last event of the year is shaping up to be another great one. Overland Expo isn’t just a trade show, and just like any overland trip, you’ll need to pack some essentials, no matter if you’re there for the day or camping for the weekend. Keep an eye on the weather and come prepared to explore hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of rigs over three days, with something happening from sunup until well into the evening. This list provides some must-have items, some things that are super handy, and a few tips and tricks we’ve picked up over the dozens of Overland Expo events we have under our belts.
Some trail-worthy treads
You wouldn’t hit the trail on worn tires or road slicks, so don’t skimp on footwear. You’ll be walking the aisles, hanging out at after-hours events, and generally on your feet, so come prepared. Supportive shoes will make a huge difference, and if rain or cool temperatures are in the forecast, keep that in mind. Taking this a step further, pun fully intended, boost your comfort with quality socks. We’re big fans of midweight merino wool socks for all-day wear and variable conditions, and they’ll serve you well at Overland Expo.
Stay hydrated
Walking, talking, and generally having a good time doesn’t seem like a strenuous activity, but again, the days are jam-packed at Overland Expo. Stay hydrated throughout the day, and you’ll have a better time without getting hit with the telltale signs of dehydration. Bring your water bottle and be on the lookout for refill stations around the event grounds. This goes for our furry friends as well. Don’t forget their packable bowl or whatever drinking apparatus your canine adventure companion prefers!
Watch the sun
Not literally; that can damage your eyes, but even in October, sunburn is still a risk. Bring a lightweight long-sleeve and protect your face and neck with a good hat or sunscreen. Getting burnt on the first day takes some of the fun out of the rest of the weekend, so come prepared, and don’t forget to reapply that sunscreen throughout the day.
Layer up
The mountains in late October offer up some great weather, especially if you’re camping… wink wink, nudge nudge.

But even over the course of the day, a cool morning can turn into a warm midday, and then the mercury drops after sunset. Keeping a trusted layer handy is a great way to stay comfortable, so break out that trusty fleece, that classic wool sweater, or the packable puffy and keep it handy throughout the weekend.
Bring a bag
At the very least, you’re going to get some cool stickers, patches, and koozies. Plus, you should have that water bottle and extra layer handy. You’ll likely pick up brochures, buy some cool stuff at a great price thanks to special show discounts, and, while not essential, we also suggest keeping the items below handy.
Pro tip: A backpack is great to keep it all organized, but at the very least, toss a packable tote bag into your jacket pocket so that if you find some unexpected items, you won’t be left walking around with your hands full.
Capture the moments
Even if it’s just your phone, a camera is super handy for capturing memories at Overland Expo. Call us nostalgic, but we think a camera helps you stay in the moment a bit more, plus it usually takes a better photo. We see plenty of cool cameras ranging from old-school gems to the latest tech at each event, and it’s a great parallel to the range of rigs you’ll see as well. Take note
While not necessarily a must-have, you’ll want some way to keep track of everything you see and learn at Overland Expo East. There are hundreds of exhibitors, and hundreds of classroom session hours, and that’s a lot to keep up with. A trusty pen and notebook, or your phone’s note app if you’re so inclined, is a great way to plan your day, review what you’ve learned, and keep track of everything the weekend has to offer.

A two-wheeled companion
If you’re camping at Overland Expo East, you might want to bring a bike. It’s a very bike-friendly venue, and having one on hand makes it easy to zip around the exhibitor area, head to the classrooms, or swing back by camp to grab what you need for the rest of your day. Add in a lock and bike light, and you’re set for a great weekend.

Consider this a bonus, but honestly it’s kind of a given. If you’re camping with us at Overland Expo East, first off, thanks! We think it’s the best way to get the most out of the weekend.
