Rhino-Rack has rolled out a new generation of its popular Pioneer series of roof rack platforms. Called Pioneer Series 6, the company says the new design cuts weight and reduces drag but has more spots to secure your gear.

The Colorado-based overlanding accessory maker says the Pioneer Series 6 racks cut drag by a whopping 60% and weight by 20% compared to previous models. They also say the Series 6 racks have 25% more usable channels for arranging and securing cargo. Since it’s lighter, owners can stow more gear on the racks without going over rooftop weight limits. No channel apertures means the whole platform can be used to mount up gear.

Despite the weight loss, Rhino says the racks are just as strong as previous models and “challenges the boundaries of aerodynamics, physics, and durability.” And because they are more aerodynamic, Rhino says the Series 6 racks are its quietest racks at highway speeds as well. Detachable wind fairing inserts in the leading edge of the racks helps cut drag at higher speeds.

A tougher coating resists scratching and damage, and all extensions have internal wiring capability for installing aux lights and other equipment. East/West mounting channels allow for more mounting options than before, and Rhino-Rack says it is compatible with a wide range of mounting accessories for gear, water toys and odd-sized cargo.

The racks are available for a wide range of vehicles, and prices start at about $800. Go to Rhino-Rack’s website to check vehicle fitment and compatibility. Assembly is required.
