Rooftop tent maker Roofnest is introducing two models for overlanding adventurers. Roofnest says the Falcon 3 EVO and Falcon 3 EVO XL are “all-new” and combine lightweight, better aerodynamics, and an improved appearance.

The Falcon 3 EVO is a clamshell-type hard-top tent that sleeps two adults and measures 83 x 50 inches when closed and 80 x 47 inches with a 58-inch height inside. When closed, it is just 8 inches tall at most and only three inches tall at the leading edge for improved airflow while in transport. It weighs 140 pounds and can hold 150 pounds on racks mounted to optional 6-channel crossbars when closed. Roofnest says it can accommodate campers up to 6-foot-2 inches tall.

Despite having more interior space than the older Falcon models, Roofnest says the EVO models are actually slightly smaller in size overall and lighter weight.

Smaller, lighter, but more room?

The Falcon 3 EVO XL adds enough space for another camper and is 88 by 60 inches overall, with 85 by 57 inches of internal room. Fully open it is 64 inches tall. Both models come with ladders that expand to 7 feet 5 inches tall. They also share 2-inch thick memory foam mattresses with a quilted cover. However, each can be optioned with a 4-inch thick self-inflating “Featherbed Air Mattress” with a foam core for a bit more luxurious sleeping experience. An anti-condensation mat to help keep moisture at bay is also standard, and there is an optional insulation kit for cold-weather camping. Roofnest says light bedding can remain on the mattress with the tents in the closed position.

Roofnest made the popular U-bar feature from the older Falcon Pro standard on the EVO models, and setup is quick and easy once on site. The new Falcon models also include HVAC ports for adding heat or A/C to the mix. New latches also make setup and stowing the tents quicker and more secure. Screened side windows and skylights let in light airflow as well, and long LED strips are built in for interior illumination at night.

The tents were designed at the company’s Boulder, Colorado headquarters. Roofnest CEO Bob Afric said the new Falcon EVO models are “the culmination of seven years of research and development. It reimagines what defines a slim, lightweight clamshell rooftop tent.” According to a press release from Roofnest, the Falcon 3 EVO is $3,495, while the Falcon 3 EVO XL is $3,795. Both are on sale now.
