For over 20 years, South African company Alu-Cab has been creating purpose-built products to make overlanding more comfortable – from tough canopies and slide-in campers to rooftop tents, awnings, and shower enclosures, Alu-Cab’s rigorous offroad testing, user feedback, and real-world experience position them at the front of the pack when it comes to expedition-grade overland equipment.
As soon as we decided to start the Toyota 4Runner build, we knew we wanted their gear on board, but Alu-Cab has solutions for any vehicle you drive.
Alu-Cab Expedition Gen3.1 Rooftop Tent
Released in early February 2021, the Gen3.1 Expedition Rooftop Tent is Alu-Cab’s most tried, tested, and proven rooftop tent. Alu-Cab’s reputation is built on a rugged, usable, and utilitarian approach that includes “everything you need and nothing you don’t.”
The Gen 3.1 is packed with features such as condensation remediation, built in storage, lighting, and USB charging outlets. The Gen 3.1 is built to accept accessories designed by Alu-Cab such as the Shower Cube, the 270 Degree Shadow Awning, and load bars for roof storage, all while still offering plenty of space to run SunFlare’s Flex 60 Solar Panels and mount their firewood “Wood Box” along with kayak or bike rack.
With multiple points of entry, interchangeable rain covers, and Alu-Cab’s revised ladder makes entry and exit from the tent easy and comfortable even with an awning and shower cube deployed.
