Cars and wristwatches have always had a symbiotic relationship. So it should come as no surprise when a car company, Toyota in this case, teamed up with a watchmaker like Casio to issue a limited-edition timepiece.
Together, the two companies have come up with a special Land Cruiser-themed watch from Casio’s G-Shock line. No, the Casio G-Shock GW9500TLC-1, based on the popular MUDMAN GW9500, is not made from old Land Cruiser parts, but Casio did team up with Toyota Auto Body to produce the new special edition watch. Toyota Auto Body is a company division that manufactures minivans, commercial vehicles, and SUVs.

The $450 collaboration comes in a special “TLC” box and features a Land Cruiser branded camo watch band and an engraved back plate showing your love for the Land Cruiser, along with some added Land Cruiser-themed color bits. Otherwise, it’s essentially the same as the MudMan model, except it is about 25% more expensive. Tech features include an altimeter, barometer, thermometer, digital compass, atomic clock-synced timekeeping, solar charging, and, of course, it’s resistant to water… and mud.

The G-Shock does not have built-in GPS, health sensors, or the ability to ping a satellite if you get lost in the wilderness, but at least you’ll know what time it is and which direction you’re heading, plus how cold (or warm) it is. Those basics can save your life and lead you back to some help if need be.
If the well-worn Casio G-Shock watches we see at Overland Expo events and on the wrists of colleagues are any indication, the Land Cruiser/Casio collaboration watch will probably last as long as its namesake Land Cruiser and see just as many adventures along the way.
