Hate that sinking feeling of finding out some thief has gotten into your Jeep Wrangler and cleaned out the glovebox and coin tray? Or, even worse, made off with a purse, pack, laptop, camera gear, or a weapon? Securing stuff inside many overlanding rigs, not just Jeeps, is even more of a challenge when the top is removed for open-air running.
Now, specialty storage maker Tuffy Security Products has a new line of lockable storage compartments compatible with 2024 Jeep Wranglers that should keep prying eyes (and tools) at bay.
Made from 16-gauge steel, with a powder-coat finish, Tuffy’s slip-in center console safe looks like it’s an OEM piece and retains the arm rest and even the USB port when installed – except it locks tight with with a three-digit tumbler or a key. Buyers can choose either option at purchase. Tuffy says it installs in a few minutes without any drilling and works just like the stock cubby.
Foor-door Wrangler owners can also opt for an in-floor Locking Cubby Cover that replaces the factory cover with a steel plate and continuous hinge. Features include weather seals, double-bitted combination security lock and a pry-resistant design. Once installed, it also provides theft protection for the Jeep’s included jack.
For more security hauling gear in the Wrangler’s rear quarters, Tuffy offers the Tailgate Lockbox. The steel box installs inside the tailgate section with standard hand tools and includes a combination lock for quickly securing gear without having to keep track of keys. The door also doubles as a work table and can safely support 40 pounds. It also accommodates the Alpine audio system subwoofer if present.
Another storage option, the Tuffy Tailgate Storage, requires some drilling for installation and is available for two and four-door Wranglers. It also offers a fold-out table than can support 40 pounds, and includes a combination lock. The Molle pattern allows for mounting gear to the lid section.
Tuffy also offers a more secure replacement for the rear deck as well, with the Deck Enclosure Lid. It works with the stock tailgate to more securely protect larger objects in the tailgate area. If need be, it can be removed swo odd-sized cargo can still be loaded into the Wrangler.
Colorado-based Tuffy Security Products is operated by Kinderhook Industries and Magna, and is a sister company of Bestop Accessories Group, which also includes lighting maker Baja Designs, according to a company press release.
