Werewolf Portal Axle Kits Offer Ultimate Ground Clearance

My off-road bona fides were forged rock crawling on the slickrock fins and red rock ledges of Moab, Utah in the late 90’s and early 00’s. In that world, the goal was always more ground clearance and the ultimate upgrade was portal axles. More than a few guys sourced portals for their builds, with easily the coolest being someone who managed to put Volvo C303 axles under a V70 Cross Country.

Fast forward to today and Werewolf out of Germany is taking it to the next level, offering portal axle conversion kits for everything from a new Ford Bronco to a Mercedes G-Wagen to a Nissan Y62 Patrol/Armada.

Their kits include all you need to bolt the portals directly to your vehicle, giving you the benefit of moving your drivetrain up out of the way as well as lifting the whole vehicle approximately 5-inches and reducing your overall gear ratio by up to 35 percent.

Paired with a 31,000-mile/2-year warranty, this could be the ultimate lift kit. If you’ve got deep pockets, that is. Prices start at $16,000 for the Bronco and reach an eye watering $22,000 for the Y62. But if your goal is ultimate clearance for your vehicle, Werewolf Portal Axel Kits are certainly worth a look.
