Colorado-based rooftop tent maker Roofnest unveiled the revamped line of its Condor family of rooftop tents, dubbed Condor 2, that include numerous new features. One upgrade that’s sure to be popular with overlanders looking to further consolidate their loads for those long or technical trips is the first-ever Condor Overland 2 XL, which is the largest aluminum-shell foldout rooftop tent in the world.
The Condor 2 and Overland Condor 2 lines are a “clean sheet” rethink of the company’s popular Condor models. Now in its second generation, the Condor family now includes an option to add load-bearing crossbars for mounting up canoes, kayaks, bicycles and more. Besides the optional crossbars, which Roofnest says Condor 2 and Condor 2 XL rails will support up to 160 pounds of cargo, and the new designs feature 320-GSM tent material, clever HVAC ports, a tough bedliner-like Line-X coating on the top shell, and more internal storage on all models.
The increased internal storage capability of the Condor 2 line allows bedding to be stored in the unit when folded up instead of having to carry it in the vehicle, which should free up some cargo room in your car or truck and keep your dog from using your bedding as a nap zone after a muddy hike.
If you have some really close friends, Roofnest says the big new Condor Overland 2 XL is “capable of sleeping up to four people on its queen-size memory foam mattress.” Tight quarters, but it beats sleeping in the cab of your rig.

The new design also features more “tent” structure rather than using the shell as a wall or roof, increasing room inside the tent. Additionally, five accessory T-channels on the outside of the shell allow for attaching up to 30 more pounds of gear per bolt when the tents are stowed for travel.
Inside, a 2.0-inch thick memory foam mattress and larger windows with simplified screening add comfort and increased ventilation. If the stars at night are big and bright, a removable top cover allows easy viewing of the heavens above. Or read a book with light from one of three dimmable LED strips inside the tent and awning.
“We invested heavily in the research and development of one-of-a-kind tents like the all-new, segment-leading Condor 2,” Roofnest CEO Bob Africa said in a press release. “We can’t wait for campers to experience these exciting new Roofnest rooftop tents.”
Prices start at $3,545, and Roofnest is shaving $100 off the price for early orders and buyers can expect their units to arrive beginning in July. You can see the new Roofnest Condor 2 lineup at the brand’s booth at Overland Expo Mountain West 2023.
