Most compact overlanding campers sleep two adults in relative comfort, while some have the ability to sleep four people as long as they aren’t four really big people. But the new Berg CX6 Camper expandable camper trailer will comfortably let six people snooze away on your next outing – with options for up to nine more guests.
This is not some XL-sized trailer, either. It measures just 17 feet long, weighs about 2,000 pounds, and rolls on a pair of high-clearance AT-shod wheels on leaf suspension. An innovative design utilizing slider tech allows it to expand to include all the extra sleeping space.
The main bed of the camper extends outward and then rests on posts for support. The South Africa-based Berg says the bed is the “only off-road caravan with a king size extra length bed.” The top of the camper rises for more headroom but not for another layer of beds. Instead, come sleepy time, two single bed racks slide out from under the main bed into the kitchen space. That means less late-night snacking, but at least everyone is inside the camper.
Two more optional single-width berths can be placed outboard of the two inboard beds on fold-out platforms. And the ten more? Berg offers satellite tents that connect to the included 180-degree awning for shelter, and three people can sleep in each of the maximum of three tents that can connect to the awning.
The camper comes with a full bathroom inside the trailer, that off-road suspension, a fully equipped slide out kitchen with two-burner gas stove, the wraparound awning, a 1000 Watt power inverter and either glass or flexible solar panels up top.

Berg also goes above and beyond the “blank slate” approach most trailer makers adhere to and includes a full set of dishes for six people, fridge and freezer in the slide-out kitchen, tableware, premium pots and pans, cooking utensils, cutting boards, mattresses, 33 gallon water tank, kettle, corkscrew, potato peeler, cheese grater (and much more). There are LED strip lighting in the awning and trailer and lots of storage space, plus a long list of options for further customizing the CX6.
