It could be argued that today we are living in a new Golden Age for 4-wheel drive vehicles. Not since the late 1990s have there been so many capable and exciting vehicles on the market for the off-road enthusiast to choose from. But there is one caveat to this cornucopia of choices; few of them are cheap.
Ford saw this and decided to take its base model F-150 EX and throw on some of the best off-road bits from the Tremor and Raptor, but none of the fluff.
That means you’re getting off-road tuned shocks, hill descent control, skid plates, all-terrain tires on 18-inch aluminum wheels, and perhaps most impressively, an electronic rear-locking differential to help with getting this full sized rig up challenging terrain.
Ford hasn’t mentioned the engine options for the Rattler. Assuming it’s the same as the 2022 FX4 package, you’re going to be looking at the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6.
No pricing has been listed yet, but Ford has made it a point to say that this is an entry-level vehicle, so one can assume that it’ll remain a pretty cheap option package. And really, that’s a smart move on their behalf.
As mentioned before, there are a lot of great vehicles for getting off-road these days, but many are quite pricey. Keeping the Rattler in the average person’s price range will hopefully get lots more people interested and excited about hitting the trail.
