KTM Redesigns the 890 Adventure R for Even More Awesome ADV Riding

KTM is rolling out an updated 890 Adventure R for 2023 with ADV-focused upgrades atop an already rock-solid platform. The 2023 model is rider-focused, taking cues from their 450 Rally, and will surely have you riding like a race champion in no time flat.

Topping the list of updates on the 890 Adventure R is the WP suspension package. With fully adjustable WP Xplor forks and a WP Xplor PDS (Progressive Damping System) rear shock, the suspension was re-tuned to provide improved feeling and reduce fatigue when you’re tearing through the dirt for hours at a time.

Like the suspension, the 2023 890’s bodywork and styling were also influenced by the 450 Rally. KTM’s goal was to better protect the rider from the elements and take an already-agile machine to the next level of maneuverability. The fairing, fuel tank, and cowling have been redesigned to improve aerodynamics and ergonomics. The new lower windscreen, high front fender, and engine protector will all be appreciated on those tricky technical tracks. And, whether you’re crunching tarmac miles or riding off-road, the single-piece seat promises more comfort, mobility, and grip.

The 5-inch TFT display gets a full-color facelift and USB-C connectors. Intuitive graphics allow for easy navigation through the menus, and the newly developed turn-by-turn navigation system allows you to select your preferred destination out of the last navigation selections.

On the tech side of things, KTM has introduced an updated ABS control unit. By taking readings from the 6D sensor, which continually monitors angle, pitch, speed, and general behavior of the motorcycle, the ABS applies the proper amount of braking force in any given situation. To save you the trouble of manually turning ABS off every time you hit the dirt, KTM’s off-road ABS toggles on in the Offroad and Rally modes, reducing ABS to the front wheel and eliminating it completely in the rear.

To give you a taste of all the technology packed into the bike, new 890s will roll off the lot with a Demo Mode engaged. The Demo Mode gives you full access to all the specs and options available on the Adventure R for the first 930 miles. As much as it might sound like an up-selling opportunity, I think it’s actually a clever way to figure out exactly which features benefit you the most. There’s nothing like being in the thick of throttle-wringing to put all those tech features to the test and determine what actually benefits your adventure ride.

The 2023 KTM 890 Adventure R is expected to hit showrooms in the US at the tail end of this year. KTM hasn’t released an MSRP as of yet, but it’s reasonable to think that it will be slightly higher than the 2022’s price tag of $14,599. That sounds like a good reason to start saving up your lunch money and getting ready to rip.
