When winter comes around, many of us stable our motorcycles until the spring thaw. Not the team over at MoonBikes. As the only eco-friendly, easy-to-ride electric snowbike on the market, MoonBikes has their eye on American ski resorts after years of development in the French Alps.
MoonBikes’ mission is “to revolutionize mobility in snowy environments by offering a simple, ultra-light, 100% electric solution that is more respectful of mountains.” And it certainly seems like they’re doing a great job of it. The bike weighs 192 pounds, can hit 25 miles per hour, and climb groomed slopes of a respectable 40% grade. Plus, this little electric adventure machine promises to be a whole lot more fun than your average, ho-hum snowmobile.
“MoonBikes is thrilled to introduce the first ultralight electric vehicle bringing eco-friendliness to the snow,” said Nicolas Muron, CEO and Founder. “After three years of research and development, and rigorous testing across the French Alps, we are proud to launch a brand-new category of vehicles, led by an innovative patented propulsion system. Snow lovers now have a sustainable and silent alternative without compromising speed, price, or autonomy as MoonBikes can run up to three hours with a second battery or up to 1.5 hours with one.”
MoonBikes is pleased to announce closing a $5M seed round and plans to accelerate its commercial development in the US, given that the US has the largest global snowmobile market. They just opened an office in Boulder, Colorado in September and are looking to hire a team to support their growth plan. Their goal is to lay fresh tracks in the US and partner with major ski resorts, to mirror the success the company experienced in Europe last winter.
Beyond recreation, Moonbikes is committed to exploring nature, without compromising it. With a product that is 100% electric and silent, MoonBikes has a zero operational footprint. “Transportation emissions represent close to 30% of US greenhouse gas emissions⎼ combating climate change requires a rapid acceleration of electrification of all forms of transportation,” states Trent Kososki, an electric mobility and infrastructure investor. “Nicolas has created a brand-new category of quiet, eco-friendly (and incredibly fun) winter recreation unlike anything this planet has ever seen.”
