Overland Expo has partnered with Kakadu to provide hot showers in private showering tents for all our camping attendees at the Overland Expo West and PNW events. See the end of the article for information on how you can try out the Kakadu Outback Shower system firsthand at Overland Expo West in May or Overland Expo PNW in June.
With over 80 years of heritage in the Australian market through its sister brands, KAKADU has long been an innovation leader in developing and delivering products that help its customers go further and stay longer in the Australian outback and now in other remote locations around the world. KAKADU most recently launched in the US in May 2023.
The KAKADU product philosophy is underpinned by a steadfast focus on innovation, performance, and comfort. This can be seen across the board from their range of portable, fully contained wood fire cookers known as the “Ozpig” to the unique Cot Tent, the traditional Aussie bed roll known as the Swag and the market leading, multi-award-winning Outback Shower. The global team at KAKADU live and breathe life in the outdoors.
The R&D team, headquartered in Brisbane, Australia is on the doorstep of some of the best overlanding terrain in the world. Head west and you’re touring over red dirt in a matter of hours, head north and you’re deep in ancient World Heritage listed rainforest or jump the barge and skip over to the world’s largest sand island K’gari. The constant in the land in this part of the world is it is remote, rugged and filled with more animals that can kill you than any other part of the world. The importance of good design that can’t let you down is a need not a want in this part of the world.
There is no substitute for real world experience and with countless hours spent overlanding some of the most remote and unforgiving tracks the KAKADU team have clearly come up with a formula to develop some truly unique, game changing product. Asked what the secret to the development is Global CEO, Justin Casey says ‘We believe the best ideas come from experience, there is no doubt that some of our most successful products start with one of the team sitting around a campfire, cold beer in hand kicking off a conversation with “wouldn’t it be great if”…
When asked about the products that the team is most proud of, Justin says ‘it’s tempting to talk about the Outback Shower as the market leader in fully portable, instant hot water; however, it’s the products that are so simple in their design that you often hear the comment ‘why didn’t I think of that’ when referring to them. We love the simplicity of the KAKADU Cot Tent. It’s what you get when a cot meets a tent, the ultimate one-person sleep solution. It keeps you up off the ground, meaning you’re dry, warm, and safe from snakes, and it gives you full protection from the elements and even helps regulate the temperature with the 3000mm waterhead rated, Blockout coated fly. It sets up in a matter of seconds and packs away to fit into the back of your truck.
If you are interested in seeing the Kakadu Outback Shower in action, Overland Expo has partnered with Kakadu to provide hot showers in private showering tents for all our camping attendees at the Overland Expo West and PNW events. The Kakadu showers will be located at both the weekend pass camping and premium camping areas of the venues starting Thursday evening and running through Sunday morning. 6 to 8 shower stalls can be found at each location and will be available between 6:30 am and 8:00 am each morning and then again between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm each evening. Shower use will be limited to 8 minutes per person to keep wait times short and to properly manage fresh water use and gray water production.
This will be a great opportunity for our camping attendees to try out the Kakadu Outback Shower system. For those who fall in love with the idea of easy, hot showers while out on the trail, units will be available for purchase at the event. In addition to how showers, the system is also great for use in your camp kitchen. A demonstration unit will be at the Culinary and Backcountry Pavilion, where our teaching chefs will be using them to wash dishes between classes.
