Building on the success of the popular 4Xe plug-in hybrid models, Stellantis-owned Jeep has announced that new all-electric models are on the way for both Europe and the U.S. – and other markets worldwide as well.
Even better, the compact new electric Renegade’s price target is $25,000, which is no doubt for the shortest range, barest bones variant. So far, no details around price, performance, or options have been disclosed, and the Renegade EV may not appear until 2026. The current Jeep Wrangler 4Xe hybrid starts at an MSRP of just over $50,000. Read our review of the Wrangler 4Xe.
At a recent Stellantis event known as Investor Day, Stallantis officials said they intend for Jeep to add a new model every year for at least the next three years on the way to a 13-vehicle lineup by 2027, many of which will be hybrids or purely electric vehicles. The all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S (video below) was also recently announced but it will be considerably more expensive than the Renegade.
Stellantis, headquartered in the Netherlands and born of the Jeep/Chrysler/Fiat partnership three years ago, is the owner and operator of Jeep and 13 more automotive brands, including RAM, Maserati, Fiat, Dodge, and others. Company leaders say they want to grow the hybrid and EV markets. EV adoption rates are higher in the EU than in the U.S., despite the fact that the Jeep 4Xe models are enjoying considerable success in North American markets. However, a recent sales slump for electric vehicles has many companies rethinking their electric vehicle strategies. Despite the current market conditions, Stellantis says they are forging ahead on electrification. The fully electric Jeep Recon, a smaller all-electric Jeep, is already set to debut in the EU and possibly the U.S.
“Today we are a unique company by nature and a powerful carmaker by performance, well-equipped to deliver through tough times and win the long game,” Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares told attendees at the event. “Our global presence, powerful technology, and brand portfolio span across diverse products… giving us an enviable customer reach.”
Many Jeep 4Xe owners say the combination of electric-only driving range for commuting, better gas mileage, the added power of the combined power systems and the Jeep’s off-road prowess make the 4Xe variants highly desirable. In recent months it’s been difficult to find 4Xe models in stock or without a markup over MSRP.
